Feminists Flock to New Group Launch

Cardiff feminist forum is set up for local campaigns.

The first feminist group in Cardiff since the collapse of Mind The Gap met last week.

Called The Waves, men and women who came to the meeting at Milgi’s discussed local and national issues, including the relevance of the word ‘feminist’, as the direction of the group was decided. 

Jennifer Smith, who formed The Waves  by posting notices on Facebook groups said, “I started the group because there was nothing available to women in Cardiff who wanted to find out about feminism and get involved in local and national issues. 

“There is not enough awareness of how important feminism is today.”  

Plans for International Women’s Day 2009 in Cardiff were considered, with a short-film competition being suggested as a good way to advertise the event
